The bar staff and waitresses did their utmost to make sure we were looked after well and our starters arrived swiftly. I had a wonderful bruschetta (£4.25), beautifully presented and topped with pesto, chopped cherry tomatoes, red onion and feta cheese. On the other side of the table, Debs' asparagus spears wrapped in Parma ham (£5.50) went down a treat, while Simon's Thai fish cakes with a sweet chilli sauce (£4.95) proved very popular. Both guests chose pork tenderloin (£10.95), served on a sweet potato cake, with a smoked garlic and bacon sauce, and accompanied with roasted vegetables. Like all the dishes, the pork came in very generous portions, and was described as "exquisite." I opted for the butterflied chicken breast with melted mozzarella on sundried tomato spaghetti (£10.95). The chicken was tender and almost melted in the mouth. With the generous size of portions, there really wasn't much room left but there was no way we were leaving without some pudding (all £3.95). My selection of ice cream was presented beautifully in a tall glass, while Debs and Simon shared a lovely raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake. The food is the best I have found in the town, and the chefs clearly take great pride in presenting it stylishly as well. With their Christmas menus about to start, I think I will be repaying many more of my friends with a trip to the Gladstone Arms in the coming months. By Gordon Simpson - Gazette & Herald
Spent the summer stuck in a hotel in Chippenham, and the Gladstone Arms kept me sane. Some of the best food I've ever tasted, in decent portions, and service second to none and I can't fault the beer. By Mike - www.bestpubs.co.uk
